Numerical Modeling of Shell-and-Tube-like Elastocaloric Regenerator

Elastocaloric cooling is considered an environmentally friendly future alternative to vapor-compression technology. Recently, a shell-and-tube-like elastocaloric regenerator loaded in compression has demonstrated record-breaking heat-pumping performance and fatigue-resistant operation. The aim of this work thus present new 1D numerical model simulate optimize the operation with design. In first part work, superelastic properties single NiTi tube, which serve as input data for model, were determined through experimental characterization phenomenological modeling. second part, results compared experimentally obtained results. Relatively good agreement was found regarding temperature span, heating power, COP values, indicates that developed could be used accurate optimization regenerators. Finally, effects operating conditions hysteresis losses on are modeled discussed. This shows configuration can achieve maximum span more than 50 K at zero-thermal-load cooling/heating power up 4000 W·kg−1 about 4 (at zero span).
